| Hal2001's Full Review: Panasonic PV-DV900 Mini DV Camcorder |
The Panasonic PV-DV900 is a first impression a little disappointing due to the more plastic feel and fixed angle eye piece, as well as the cassette door opening from the bottom. This is based on previous experience with Sony Digital 8 cameras having more hefty metal feel, and a huge range of features that rarely get used by home video users.
The second slightly disappointing impression was from assuming that the DV900 model would be a big step above the DV400, that a friend of mine owns. Being a Sony user I expected that the higher the number, the greater the quality, but Panasonic seems catch you off guard with their model numbers.
Things I liked include the compactness of the camera, good quality overall, nice adjustments, and especially the zoom rocker in the direction of zooming (in/out). The Sony Digital 8 I have used has a left/right switch which is not intuitive at all. The camera is very good for no-frills, light-duty, amateur video and can be edited by firewire with a computer. If you master this camcorder, you will be able to move up Prosumer model with ease.
