My husband and I went shopping for a new digital camera after Christmas The one that we had was not a great camera to begin with and it went on the blink after about a year. We thought that this time, we would invest in a really good one. In particular, we were looking for a camera that took really nice close-ups so that we could put clear pictures of jewelry on our website. We looked at nearly every camera on the market and had finally narrowed our choice down to two, when my husband started asking about the video cameras.
We were shown the Panasonic PalmSight and saw right away that no matter how close we got, the picture was very clear. We could even read the small numbers on the face of the salesman's watch! This palmcorder has a special photo shot feature that allows it to function like a digital camera. The salesman warned us, however, that the photos do not print out very well, but that the quality is just fine for the internet. We have not been disappointed.
This palmcorder is small and lightweight, and can be taken anywhere. It has a back light, a fade button and a menu inside the view finder. I haven't even figured out half of the features because I haven't taken the time to look at the manual. How's that for a recommendation? Your basic electronically challenged female can pick up this camera and use it without reading the instructions.
As far as the battery life goes, it lasts a lot longer if you are using it for still shots. As this is our first video camera, we don't really have anything to compare it to but it seems to last quite a while. We took it to a New Years' party, used it there, then in the morning took a video from the rim of the Grand Canyon and along the road home and it didn't run out.
Also, the movie quality seems great to us, but I don't know if it is professional quality or not. I image that a professional would be looking for one of those large heavy types that you see camera crews lugging around.
I would recommend the PalmSight to anyone who is looking for a video camera that is well made, practical and versatile.
