Pros: good price for a digital camera, great features, small, easy to use.
Cons: the bottom-loading cassettes are inconvenient, and pricey ($15 a pop for an hour-long tape). The included external lighting source is on the cheap side.

| keithbrown's Full Review: Panasonic PV-DV910 Mini DV Camcorder |
I bought this camera after the birth of my daughter, mostly for home movies and such. I have yet to find much that I'd complain about. It really is a good camera for the money.
I decided before i bought *any* camera that i was going to spend about $1,000 dollars. The way i figured it, if i had more than that to spend on a camera, perhaps i should re-order my priorities a bit, since I am only a video novice.
In addition to the price, I wanted a camera that was FireWire compatable. The panasonic is. I wanted enough gadgets (fades, good zoom, a few built-in transitions) to hold my attention. The panasonic fit the bill here, too.
There are other cameras from other manufacturers which have better features, but those will cost you. But if you're after a camera that does the basics -- with a few extras thrown in for good measure -- this camera is hard to beat.
The camera is small, lightweight and the 3" display is great. The picture quality is fantastic, so long as you don't take the billed 300x zoom literally. The sound quality is excellent and the ability to switch to a voiceover mode is a great option.
However, the panasonic operates on digital video tape, which seems like an oxymoron to me. And they don't come cheap: about $15 a piece for an hour-long tape. The bottom-loading tape drive is a bit of a hassle, and a little noisy, but that's picky. Also, the external light panasonic provides is substandard. But again, that's picky.
The panasonic offers a great amount of features in a technology that should last awhile at a very reasonable price. I'd recommend it to either first-timers or techies alike.
