| michin4's Full Review: Sony Handycam® CCD-TRV108 Hi-8 Analog Camcord... |
Having used the Sony DCR-TRV10 camcorder for about a year I've seen that the quality of Sony dv camcorders is much better than any other brand. This camera has all the features that you'd need to do anything. It's size is bigger than that of the JVC GR-DV models or the Sony PC-10 ,but since it looks like any other consumer camcorder you won't get odd looks from people when you are out taping family events.
This mini dv camcorder is very durable and can probably last years and years if you don't use it every day like myself (up till now mine still works, but all the JVC ones I've used give up in 6 months). It's a little expensive but the technology will probably work with everything for the next 2 or 3 years. It works right out of the box, too. So you don't need to buy tons of extra accessories or batteries to keep it running. Some of the things I like about it is that it has a large view screen, lens ring, accessory shoe (where you can attach a light), nightshot ( let’s you record video at night up to 10 feet, which comes in handy when the lights go out), and all the other manual controls you’d really need so don’t worry about it getting in the way of your creativity.
It can also record incoming video through any of its inputs, just like the older Sony 8mm camcorders. This is a very good feature because you can edit your video in your computer then send it back to your Sony DCR-TRV10 through S-video, firewire, or the standard RCA cable. The video quality comes very close to that of all the other expensive Sony camcorders because the new ones haven’t gone over 500 lines of resolution that much. Another good feature is the selection of beep modes. You can select “melody” and make it easy to use for anyone.
The only problem that I found was that the lens size has an odd measurement making it impossible to find any adapters or lenses in that size. It doesn’t go with the standard 27mm or 37mm lens size so if you want to buy one you’ll probably have to buy it from Sony, which is very difficult. Other than that this is a very good camcorder, which if taken care of will last for a long time.
