I stared at the box for a day or two. Knowing that I would have to delve in soon enough. I love electronics (my husband would have had the box open and action going, pronto!) don't get me wrong. New "toys" are always exciting, but...I hate to read all the directions (though I'm very good at it). Cords, where do they go? What do all those little buttons mean? To zoom or not to zoom? The house was quiet, with a big sigh, I opened it. I turned it over in my hands a few times, slipped my hand under the carrying strap, put my eye to the viewfinder and you know what? This thing, this electronic "toy" was easy. I like to be able to figure everything out on my own, "Now what does this do?" Ooops! that's the record button. How do I get the date to come off? Oh, there we go. After, 10 minutes of recorded tape (yikes!). I will admit it did take me a good 20 minutes to find the rewind button. My first thought, "Opening Price Point Brand"(retail speak) as I put the camcorder tape into the vhs pack for rewind. I felt kind of silly when I did find it.
It really is a cinch to use and I highly recommend it. The only thing I wasn't thrilled with (yes, I did find the volume button) was the sound quality. Ok, maybe it was subject error but it wasn't the greatest. I only had to refer to the manual once. And that was when I was trying to make a copy of the tape without the proper cords. I ended up rigging 2 vcr's side by side. (and who said I wasn't an Electronics Expert?)
Which brings me to the instruction manual. Since I read these things (under duress or pure necessity) I'm going to have to rate it very useful.
It was self-explanatory and not too complicated (my favorite kind).
The picture quality was great and the screen as viewfinder feature (excuse my lack of the correct terminology) was very helpful. The button placement made sense and the battery charge was the fastest I've seen.
I was happy with the length of charge, too.
I love the ease in which you can review the tape in the VHS pack.
The only reason I am giving this camcorder a 4 rating is the negative on the sound quality. Maybe the final cut will be ok. We'll see.
I highly recommend!
