| STEPHANIE_K's Full Review: Panasonic PV-L559 VHS-C Analog Camcorder |
I purchased this camcorder in 1994 and paid close to $500.00 I'd say. I liked the fact that you could view the camcorder tapes in your vcr with the playpack that came with the camera. At this time these were the more popular camcorders and at that time I believe they were just coming out with the ones where you could view what you were filming. But I choose to keep the cost down due to those still being fairly expensive.
At first I was very pleased with the camera it did all that I expected from it. It was simple to use and the images that were taped were excellent. I did not have many occasions in which I felt necessary to record the events. I may have used it 10 times or less from the middle of 1994 until the fall of 1996. I used it mainly to record vacations, holidays, and celebrations.
Some of the good qualities were that it was very light in weight, fairly compact and easy to use. I also liked as I mentioned before the fact that you could view what you had recorded at home on your vcr for family and friends to see. However that did not last long, in the fall of 1996 during a trip to Las Vegas, Nevada and Disneyland the tapes kept getting wound up around the wheels in the cassette part.
So as anyone might think I thought it needed cleaning although I had used less than 10 times total and maybe 20 hours total in time. So I took it to a shop a very reputable one to have it cleaned and repaired if necessary. Well I received a call form the owner letting me know that the motor in the camcorder had a manufacture defect.
I picked it up and immediately called Panasonic to see how they wanted to handle this issue due to the simple fact that it was of no fault of my own. And let them know that I had it looked at by a well known shop in which they noted that it was not repairable and that it was a manufacture defect.
The customer service for Panasonic were not helpful at all in fact they were very unpleasant to deal with. They basicly pushed it off on me due to the fact that it was over 2 years old. Despite the fact that it was hardly ever used and not only that it was beyond my control.
In closing all I have to say is if you want something reliable please choose a different manufacture that may stand behind there work. Unless you have about $500.00 to throw away then give them a chance and see if you may get one without defeats. Or you can always look at it as limited use only with around 20 hours maximum at $25.00 per hour! I'm not 100% sure but I bet you can probably rent one cheaper than that per hour.
