mtchou's Full Review: Canon Elph 370Z APS Film Camera
A year ago I purchased the Canon Elph 370Z as something I could bring with me on a 3 week backpacking trip I was going on that summer. At the time I wanted something light and portable, but also something that would allow me to take a variety of pictures without having to resort to heavy SLR cameras. During that trip, I took 8 rolls of film with my Elph, and they fulfilled exactly what I needed with a variety of Panoramic, Standard, and HDTV shots, not to mention high quality zooms into beautiful features we saw on my trip.
The Elph is not for everyone. If you are a serious photographer, then SLR type cameras and larger, more multifunction cameras will be better suited for you. However, if you even consider yourself an amateur photographer(as I do) who likes to take not just pictures of your friends but also pictures that are pleasing to the eye, the 370Z allows you the options to do exactly that. It's 3x zoom allows adjustment on the fly. The 3 picture sizes are excellent for framing shots just like you want them. Also, the night-time feature, and quick sport-shot features are great for many situations. On my hiking trip, the Automatic Timer option was indispensable for group shots and couldn't have been easier to use(press a button on the top of the camera).
In terms of Durability, this camera has done an amazing job considering what I have put it through. I have owned the camera for one year, and in that year, I have gotten sand in the camera in a trip to the Great Sand Dunes, dropped it four times from the height of a desktop, and gone through approximately 30 rolls of film. Of those 30 rolls of film, only one roll had significant problems with all the pictures being overexposed and frequent errors popping up on the LCD screen, but after that, the camera continued to work fine. Unfortunately, I dropped the camera one last time last month from a distance of a foot and bent the flash mechanism so now it is being repaired. This camera IS amazingly durable, but it has its limits.
I love the pictures I have developed using this camera. I love the smiling faces that come out of the pictures, and I love being able to bring it out whenever I want. If you want convenience, durability, and flexibility, this is the camera for you
