| dad2mjnj's Full Review: Kodak Advantix 1600 Auto APS Film Camera |
This camera was purchased for my wife to take on vacation. She really wanted an Advantix camera, so we bought the bottom of the line to check it out. I am very thankful I didn't spend more on an Advantix! The pictures do turn out very good, but no better than a comparably priced 35mm.
It was nice being able to switch to panoramic, until we forgot to switch it back to normal and took a whole roll of panoramic shots. I still haven't decided if we forgot, or if the switch got moved putting it in and out of the case. Suffice it to say, that was the last time I paid $20+ to develop a roll of film! Just developing a roll of regular size pictures runs over $10.
This is a nice little camera, but the bad outweighs the good, in my opinion. It takes forever to get developed, usually about 2 weeks. (I know more places are beginning to develop APS film, so maybe this won't be a problem much longer. Walmart does have 1 hour developing for this, but you should never trust important pictures to one hour developing, as much quality is lost.) It is very expensive to develop compared to 35 mm.
All in all, if cost doesn't matter, the APS is nice, but be prepared to spend extra on everything, from film to developing to reprints.
