| Kallisti's Full Review: Kodak Advantix 1600 Auto APS Film Camera |
I guess the Kodak Advantix I own is too cheap to be listed on Epinions, so I'll take the liberty of listing it here.
I have the Advantix F300.
Yes, my camera is missing and entire 1300 of something that comes with the 1600, and I don't even know what. Whatever those 1300 things are, I don't miss 'em. As far as camera numbering systems go, I'm an unapologetic idiot. All I know is that :
1) My F300 was only $20.00,
2) I can slip in some film in a split second
with push-button ease and get the pictures
delivered on a Kodak CD-ROM.
It's simple and utilitarian. Yay!
The cheapo Advantix advantage is mainly the fact that if you lose it, have it stolen or drop it in the water during a fishing trip, you're only out $20.00 US plus the cost of film. No great emotional or financial turmoil in the event of a loss. You can bring this camera anywhere with the assured knowledge that your losses will be limited to $20.00 in the event of a camera tragedy.
Although the pictures are grainy (especially when using the silly cropping/enlargement feature) you can import your files into Photoshop and do wonders with the color and grain. A little lassoed gaussian blur? Sure! Go ahead! Pump up the color, too.
In the right light with the right speed film you can get some excellent photos with these.
My advice is never to touch that weird panorama option. The so-called "panoramic" pictures aren't really panoramic. They're just badly cropped and blown up, and I've found that the use of that button will forfiet most of the image I was shooting at. Pretty much usless. Stick with the standard size photos. They're more manageable and look better.
More advice would be to cut off the wrist band -- it's always dangling in front of the lens if you don't have it around your wrist.
Another thing to avoid on the F300 (or at least on MY F300) is turning the camera vertically to get an up'n'down picture. This seems to throw the lens off-kilter, resulting in a picture of the person standing next to the person whom you wanted a picture of.
For twenty bucks, I'll live with these limitations. It's practically disposable without being as environmentally wasteful as the one-time use cardboard boxes.
An excellent option to disposables for the pedestrian picture-taker.
