I had been looking at cameras the whole Christmas season, and for the zoom I wanted the prices almost doubled the zoom number.
I am a big music/concert person, and when picking my first "big" camera, I was very picky. I needed the option of what is called 'night flash' and things like auto rewind along with Zoom.
My most recent concert, I had fourth row aisle seating for the Backstreet Boys Concert. I took along my standard 35mm point and shoot with me. It took nice pictures, but I didn't get as close as I would have liked. Plus, the 35mm film is impossible to know if it has been exposed or not. I had forgotten on the second roll, and then I only had around 26 exposures from my first. I was happy and sad- yes, the pictures came out but they weren't the best.
I needed a new camera, and since it was around Christmas time, I put it on my list. My Mom was very open to the idea of a camera, but not one with 180mm zoom that costs around $300. So, I just patiently adored the zoom lens from afar and waited for Christmas night.
Mom could have not picked better. To start off, it has drop in loading, auto rewind and the film format can change from standard, to large and then finally panoramic. The film does cost more (average $7-11 for a three pack of speed 200 film, $10-14 for 400 speed), but in my opinion it is worth it. Your film will never be re-exposed again!
The zoom is 35-60mm and is an Ektanar Aspheric Lens. The Camera has many flash options, timing options and date imprinting on the film itself.
The package comes with a film carrying case (nice for zoo trips, concerts and storage in between taking pictures).
The camera is durable also, as my sister dropped hers (same one) and although it had a nick at the base of the camera, it still works perfectly!
I definitely recommend this to anyone for a beginning camera to learn photography, take wonderful pictures and get true value for your money!
