Pros: Light, small, Nikon quality, can use other Nikon equipment, APS format
Cons: No manual option, only one auto focus point, no hot shoe.
The Bottom Line: Buy this camera. It is the perfect camera for the amateur, better than point and shoot cameras. (The real professionals of course uses the 35 mm format or above).

| dalbo's Full Review: Nikon Pronea S Film Camera |
I bought this camera last July and I am really thrilled over what it can do. I have used a 35 mm SLR since 1974 and , as usual, the frequency of taking pictures varies over the time. The purchase of my last 35 mm SLR dates back to 1980 and at the end I did not use it very frequently. As you can understand I would best be described as an amateur photographer.
The purchase of this camera has made me taking a lot of pictures. The fact that it is an APS camera lets me easily decide what should be in the picture and what should not (without doing my own developing and copying). When you come to think of it, most SLR owners take their pictures, send the film to a lab, gets the paper photos back, puts them into an album and that's that. Here you can make something else.
The camera itself is very easy to use. Point and shoot. But it is an SLR. Use your other Nikon lenses and you can make almost anything with this camera. The quality of the pictures are very good, but you must use the right lab (have nothing to do with the camera). The camera is very light and small, it is no burden to carry it the whole day.
I have seen that some other reviews complain about the picture quality. This must depend on your choice of film and developing lab. I use Fuji Nexia film and a high rated lab and the technical quality couldn't be better.
Update Feb 15 2004: It's a pity Nikon have discontinued this camera. But on the other hand this allows you to find some equipment at really low prices. I have just bought my third lens, the 20-60 mm IX which is something like 25-75 mm on the 35 mm system. The price was somewhere around 40$. I have carried the Pronea for travels to Italy and Egypt and come back with lots of pictures of very high quality. When I compare the weight and size of my equipment with my old one I am very pleased. This camera truly is the perfect combination of the small, easy to carry, point and shoot camera, and the high quality picture SLR camera that puts you in control of how the picture is taken.
