| cxshih's Full Review: Nikon Pronea S Film Camera |
I bought the Nikon Pronea S because I wanted the convenience of an APS camera with the quality of an SLR camera. Nikon's Pronea S fit this bill fairly well. The pros for this camera is that the pronea is a full SLR camera. It can take on most of the lenses offered by Nikon and has three lenses specifically designed for the Pronea series - each lens starts in IX-Nikkor. The Pronea S is also available with a handle battery pack that screws to the bottom of the camera and allows the use of AA batteries. I like the camera for it's light weight, the autofocus feature, SLR lens capability, and it's use of APS film. Although APS is an 'inferior' format to 35 mm or larger formats, I really like the convenience.
The film quality from this camera with Fuji nexia film is average. It does well with lighted or bright daytime scenes but not so well with dark scenes. High quality lenses can help but that will offset the affordability of this camera.
I use the camera normally when traveling and hiking. The camera packs well and does not add a lot of weight to the pack. The film is also easy to deal with and loading and unloading APS is extremely simple even in mid roll. As with most APS cameras, the film can be developed in 3 aspect sizes.
The biggest issue I have had with this camera is that the mirror motor broke a month after I bought the camera but Nikon replaced the camera immediately and I have not had a single problem with it since.
The camera is by no means a professional level camera. It lacks many of the features necessary to correctly format a scene but for the regular consumer who likes the ability to swap in a zoom lens to get a closer shot without having to know how to set f stops or shutter speeds, this is the camera for you.
