Bottom line: Easy-to-use camera takes clear and crisp pictures. Ability for you to write "scripts" for the camera is a big plus if your a techno-geek. Included software is great for everyday user, but lacks for the power user and definately not suitable for the professional photographer.
The DC290 is Kodak's top-of-the-line consumer digital camera, allowing you to take photographs at up to 2.7 megapixels. The camera will also support 3.3 megapixel INTERPOLATED, meaning that it takes a picture at the lower resolution of 2.7 megapixels and adds extra pixels to make it larger...you're better off doing this on PhotoShop if you want a larger resolution. It's based off the DC260 and DC265, both which I've also had and used frequently.
The photographs are clear, and crisp, and it takes great closeup shots. It's best used for outdoor pictures where there is a lot of light, indoor pictures tend to be a bit dark, as the flash is not very powerful. I used it to take pictures of a recent cross country ski expedition to iceland, and the photographs of all the scenery in Iceland were fabulous. I also brought it to take pictures of a friend's birthday party, and the pictures were underexposed, dark, and blurry.
There is a rather mediocre LCD screen on the back--it drains a lot of power when you have it on and depletes the battery very quickly. Nonetheless, it's a great thing to have, as when you take a picture, you can quickly see how it turned out.
The camera is a bit slow--it takes a while for you to scroll through the pictures and for them to load up. Also, it takes roughly 2-3 seconds before you can take another shot--so this is something you do not want to use for taking pictures at sporting events or where there is a lot of action.
As such, the DC290 is a great point and shoot camera. It's not for the power user, but for your everday consumer, Kodak made a easy-to-learn and intuitive digital camera that takes great photographs in most situations.
