| rottiff's Full Review: Ricoh RDC-300Z Digital Camera |
I purchased this product expressly because of the view finders location and the camera being lightweight. I was looking for a digital camera that could be used from someone's lap, as my husband is disabled and unable to lift anything to eye level.
I choose this camera after going through newsgroups and seeing that Ricoh overall did not have many feedback’s with bad ratings. The place I purchased it from also gave me a 3 year LMW plus two 2MB SmartMedia cards for photo storage at no cost.
I do like the camera overall, though it "IS" a battery hog. I was not looking for a high resolution camera, just an everyday camera to take pictures with and it fits nicely into my laptop case. It focuses nicely. It takes clear pictures. The pictures though, once loaded onto the computer, sometimes need to be lightened up through the supplied software.
I have had to have this into Ricoh's Repair shop 2 times now. Both times it was due to a shutter problem. The first time it took Ricoh 4 weeks to get it back to me. The camera had gone completely dead during a download onto my laptop. The second time I had it back in 4 days, as the replacement shutter just needed to be adjusted and that was why I was having difficulties. (It had been acting up since I got it back from the first repair and I had just not resent it back in to have it fixed.)
When I purchased my camera it did not come with the "Quest" battery charger and batteries. After complaining again about battery life when I sent the camera in again the Repair Shop, at no charge to me, sent me the Quest charger and batteries and I have been having better luck with battery life. As the Repair Shop explained to me since the view finder is LCD this model "will" use batteries faster than other models. Panasonic rechargeable also work well with this camera. Ray-O-Vac rechargeables do not. When in the house taking multiple shots with the flash I do usually use the AC adapter.
