| littlelexy's Full Review: FUJIFILM Discovery S700 Zoom Date 35mm Film Camera |
I was in search of a new 35mm camera, and had a $5 off coupon from Sunday's paper. Good on the purchase of any Fuji camera. So, off I went to Super K, not the best place to buy a camera, mind you, but it'll do for now. I wasn't sure what I was looking for, other than something that had a zoom lens. I had a old 35mm camera with none of the fancy stuff.
I went to the counter and started looking at all the Fuji camera's. I liked the zoom date but it was a little out of my price range, I was hoping to spend $100 or less. It retailed for $119. It came the battery, 2 rolls of Fuji 200 speed film, 24 exposures, a Fuji quick snap outdoor flash camera, 800 speed 27 exposures and the camera strap. Not a bad package deal. I ended up buying this camera. They took the $5 off and on the back of the package was a $10 refund as well. So, that made it under the $100 that I was willing to spend.
I got it home, and took out the manual. Got the battery in and loaded the film. The next thing was to figure out how to work this camera. I am not one for reading instructions, so I knew this would take more than a few minutes to read and try out. It has a power button, so the battery is not constantly running. It also has the option of putting the date on the picture.
Discovery S700 Zoom Date camera has these features:
auto power off system
auto focus
built-in flash
LCD panel for mode selection
self-timer
auto film advance
auto film rewind
red eye reduction
continuous shooting mode
The list of parts are as follows:
self-timer button
mid-roll rewind button
mode button
LCD panel
shutter release
wide/tele zooming lever
auto focus sensors
self-timer/red eye reduction LED
auto exposure metering sensor
lens
built-in flash
flash ready LED
viewfinder eye piece
tripod socket
remote control signal receiver (the tripod nor remote are included)
I've used this camera for 3 weeks so far, and don't have any major complaints and would recommend this to a friend. The one thing I don't like about the camera is if you are in auto focus mode, you have to stay fixated on your subject for a good amount of time before the camera will allow you to actually take that picture. It's hard to take an action shot unless you are willing to take the chance on it coming out blurry by putting it on non auto focus. It was a little discerning at first, now I'm used to it. The picture quality it up to standard as usual for Fuji. And, of course, they recommend you use Fuji film. That's all I've used so far, as it did come with the rolls free.
