I keep a Contax G1 with three lenses in my closet. As an equipment junkie I have owned and used almost every new and advanced gadget that has come on the market. My local Pro Shop keeps a shelf in their consignment counter for the fall off of my addiction.
Why then have I carried a Stylus in my coat pocket since it was first introduced? Because for the size, quality and ease of use there is no other camera on the market which will grab those spontaneous shots of friends, family and passing strangers with the same non-threatening aplomb.
I like control. I don't like auto-focus. I don't like auto-exposure (not even the relatively benign aperture preferred type). I don't like plastic in a camera. Yet I love this little masterpiece. It fits easily in a pocket, snaps into action and the fill option makes it a perfect outdoor addition to any photographers’ arsenal. As noted by several others, this is not a great camera for night or indoor shooting. I have yet to find the cheap, multi-purpose camera that is. Leica has a great sub-F1.0 50mm if you want to spend $4500.00 to get a publishable shot of little Mary blowing out her first birthday candle. Otherwise, I recommend the Stylus.
