| flashfriday's Full Review: Olympus Stylus Epic Zoom 80 QD 35mm Film Camera |
I bought the Olympus Stylus Zoom 80 because our family needed a camera that could take close-ups without getting all blurry. At first I was skeptical that such a small camera could really take good pictures close-up. Boy, was I ever wrong! When I got back my first roll of film I couldn't believe the crispness and clarity of the close-up pictures. My wife practically had tears in her eyes when she looked at the pictures. All she could say was "WOW, we should've bought this camera a long time ago." I couldn't agree more.
Best of all this camera is a snap to use and has tons of great features. We really like the quartz dating as it comes in handy when creating memory books. We also bought the accessory kit with the remote control and camera case.
For the price you can't beat it. Here's my recap:
Things I like:
This camera take excellent close-up shots with amazing clarity and accuracy. It is rare that even one close-up shot will come out even slightly blurry. For the quality of close-up shots that you get with this camera, it is amazing that this camera is so inexpensive.
I love the quartz dating feature. Never again will I say "Hmm...when was this picture taken?" This especially comes in handy when creating picture albums.
Intuitive flash that automatically adjusts the flash for any type of lighting situation. The red-eye reduction feature virtually eliminates all red eye photos. I've owne the camera for over a year and I have yet to have one red-eye photo.
Camera is extremely small, yet stylish and durable. Everytime I take pictures people always comment on how attractive and stylish this camera looks. It even claims to be water resistant though I hopefully won't have to test this feature. :)
I like the optional remote that lets you take pictures over 20 feet away. No longer do I have to ask strangers to take my families photo.
Olympus slide lens-cover protects the lens much better than the average lens cover. The lens-cover also retracts the zoom to protect it from getting damaged.
It is the easiest camera to use on a day to day basis. You don't have to fiddle with buttons or switches, just point the camera and click. You will be amazed at the quality of your pictures.
Things I don't like:
I wish it would have a slightly better zoom, but for the price I can't complain. Update: I no longer consider this to be something I don't like. In fact, I think that the zoom that comes with this camera is more than adequate for the average family user.
The optional tripod is small and flimsy. I recommend that you pass on this expensive and useless option. I was amazed at how small it was.
Flash mechanism often feels awkward when it pops out. I'm afraid that it will break someday (fingers crossed.) I've had it over a year and it is still working fine.
Final Thought
After the birth of our son, we wanted to get a nice camera that didn't cost an arm and a leg. After researching forever and comparing features, we decided that this camera was the best overall value. Now that we have been using it for over 6 months now, we are convinced that we made the right choice.
