CANON EOS-3
Canon's EOS-3 is a revolutionary product for the professional photographer. What makes this body better than previous Canon bodies(and all other brands, in my opinion)? The following features were deciding factors that made me purchase the EOS-3:
-45 point autofocus
- eye-controlled autofocus
-2.4% spotmetering, linkable to focusing points
-Depth of field preview
Being that the autofocus has 45 focusing points, rather than just 5, as in the EOS-1N, it has a much larger focusing area, allowing you to focus on off-center subjects. When combined with eye-controlled focus, this camera is very intuitive. It focuses on what you want it to. The eye-controlled focus must be calibrated properly for the user, and for different lighting situations though. I use these two features, with spotmetering linked to the focusing points, and have had excellent results. If I'm shooting changing subjects, such as people, I can still use the Zone system by setting the exposure compensation to +1 stop(if photographing light skinned people) and using aperature priority AE, and spotmetering on the face. Depth of field preview is a feature that is often overlooked in other cameras, but the EOS-3 has it.
I use my EOS-3 for everything from shooting fast action, such as wakeboarding, to shooting wedding candids. If the focus or exposure are ever off, I know that I made a mistake, not the camera. The use of eye-controlled focus has allowed me to focus on what I want, not what is closest to the camera. My EOS-3 has never missed focus when used in single shot mode.
Much of the time,I use my EOS-3 with Canon's 28-135mm,f/3.5-5.6 USM IS. This lens is image stabilized, which allows the user to shoot at slower shutter speeds than the normal focal length=shutter speed. Image stabilized lenses are useful to me, but be warned, they use alot of battery power. One might invest in a battery pack if using IS lenses.
Overall, I'd recommend this body to any pro photographer.
