| leon0687's Full Review: Canon EOS Rebel G 35mm Film Camera |
When I bought the Rebel G about a year ago, I was only beginning to feel interested in the realm of amateur photography. I wanted an inexpensive, yet good quality camera that could deliver the results I wanted. So far, the Rebel G has performed to my expectations.
Nonetheless, I feel obligated to mention a few qualms I've had with the camera over my year's use of it. First, I have found the body to be truly designed with the beginner in mind. Even when I matured in my photography far enough as not to require "green mode," I felt the camera geared only toward those who wish to shoot almost exclusively as such. Second, and along the same lines, I have found the exposure settings display rather frustrating at times. When I am shooting semi-manual, the settings are hardly ever displayed long enough for me to properly adjust and then refocus. Third, I have always been very wary of the plastic lens mount. I haven't had any problems yet, but my camera is only a year old. We shall see. Finally, I would comment on this Rebel's very irritating AF assist light. I often feel obligated to warn my subject before attempting to focus because of the intense glare of this white light. It does the job, but I'm sure Canon could've coupled this camera with a better system.
On the plus side, this camera also has many good points. It is light enough to hike with, "upgradeable" with the entire EOS line, and very easy to use. Photo quality using many of Canon's lenses is excellent, providing you've correctly figured exposure, AF, etc. I've taken probably 60 rolls of film this year alone and would only complain about perhaps 5% of these. Overall, I am very satisfied in this area. On the minor features of the camera: battery life is good (I've changed them out once this year); the grip is solid and ergonomical; and the wide strap is nice for all occasions.
