I've had this camera, probably since it came out. And I love it. I was a little new to the world of photography then and it was worth it to learn and grow with this camera.
This may be the camera for you if you are looking to go beyond the point and shoot level. If you take a little time to read the manual or pick up a few photo books...it will be much easier.
The controls are easy to use, they are also easy to access. And if you get to understand them more, you can do some neat creative things with this camera. The camera body feels nice and sturdy. The lens that comes with it is standard but you will be able to use it nicely.
I have had some problems with the focusing or when shooting in low light. I can still take pictures but it takes long for it to focus to take it. I thought it may have been the battery so when I changed it, it improved somewhat.
As much as I want to upgrade to a more 'advanced' model, I found myself not doing so. It almost does the job of some of the upper level ones. (Once you understand more on photography, you will be able to know what the upper level cameras could do that this nice Rebel can't.) Either way, you can still have some creative controls with this camera.
If I do upgrade, I won't trade in my Rebel G. It's provided me with years of wonderful and fun memories. I know I will still use it. I'm sure you will too.
