| johnheathcote's Full Review: Canon EOS Rebel G 35mm Film Camera |
This Cannon Rebel G is perfect for the beginner or the pro. I am only 15 years old and started using it with only 3 months of limited point and shoot camera experience. It is offered at a relatively cheep price and offers quality superior to that of older SLR (single lens reflex) cameras. Unlike older cameras it is very light and easy to handle. This camera has an internal computer that can adjust the speed of the shutter and/or the aperture to the surroundings for any light level. (See below) When you look through the viewfinder you can even see the settings the camera has chosen before taking a picture. More advanced users can also set the settings by themselves. The Rebel G comes with a flash for low-level light conditions and a bulb setting for night exposures making it one of the most flexible cameras around. If your doing sports you can even get the speed to as fast as 1/2000th of a second. It allows multiple exposures on one slide of film. The only difference between this and Rebel G QD is the quartz date feature. I feel the date feature gets in the way and you don?t want a date ruining a good picture especially if the date is accidentally wrong, but of course this can be disabled. This camera offers automatic focusing which is good for portraits but slows it down for sports. The focusing can also be turned off.
Modes: This camera has 13 different settings including manual options, You simply just set the mode and press a button:
1) Night Mode: During this mode the flash is used to illuminate the subject and a slow shutter speed to get the background. When using this mode use a tripod.
2) Sports Mode: This mode is for sports situations and other high speed action subjects.
3) Close-up Mode: This mode is perfect for close up pictures of flowers.
4) Landscape Mode: This mode is for sunsets and scenery.
5) Portrait Mode: This type of mode puts the subject in focus but blurs the background for a greater effect.
6) All Situation Mode: The full auto mode is perfect for all situations. The internal computer judges the situation.
7) Off/Lock Mode: This mode turns off the camera to prevent the batteries from running out.
8) P Mode: This is the same with full auto mode except you can set more options like continuous shooting and 8 other features.
9) Tv Mode: This is shutter priority mode with this you can set the shutter speed for fast or slow action. The camera will automatically adjust the aperture for the situation. You can set anything from Bulb to 30 sec, 20 sec, 15 sec, 10 sec, 8 sec, 6 sec, 4 sec, 3 sec, 2 sec, 1.5 sec, 1 sec, ½ sec, 1/3 sec, ¼ sec, 1/6 sec, 1/8 sec, 1/10 sec, 1/15 sec, 1/20 sec, 1/30 sec, 1/45 sec, 1/60 sec, 1/90 sec, 1/125 sec, 1/180 sec, 1/250 sec, 1/350 sec, 1/500 sec, 1/750 sec, 1/1000 sec, 1500 sec and 1/2000 of a second.
10) Av Mode: This is aperture priority mode with this you can set the aperture size for different backgrounds. The camera will automatically adjust the shutter speed for the situation. You can set any one of these 1.0, 1.2, 1.4, 1.8, 2.0, 2.5, 2.8, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.6, 6.7, 8.0, 9.5, 11, 13, 16, 19, 22, 27, 32, 38, 45, 54, and 64. The apertures available depend on the lens you have. With my 30- 80 mm lens I can get between 4 and 22
11) Manual Mode: Manual exposure allows you to set anything without computer interference.
12) A-DEP Mode: This mode is used to get a wide depth of field between near and far subjects. It is good for landscapes and large groups of people.
13) ISO: This is where you can set the film speed. The camera can automatically adjust it for you.
This camera is perfect for almost every occasion pro or beginner and has as much versatility as any other camera. It comes at a relatively cheep price depending upon if you get a lens in the package. I would highly recommend this camera to most buyers who want superior quality for a great price.
