| AlwaysAblaze's Full Review: Konica Minolta Maxxum Qtsi 35mm Film Camera |
The Minolta Maxxum QTsi is a quality camera for its price range, however it is not perfect. I purchased the camera immediately before I went on a cruise to the Bahamas. Wanting superior-quality photographs of the certainly breath-taking scenery that I was sure to encounter, I paid the $328.00 for a nice camera. When my seven rolls of white beaches and blue waters were developed, I was a bit disappointed. What I found were average-quality prints. When compared to friends' pictures taken with cheaper, smaller, fewer features cameras, they were inferior. The pictures taken by other cameras were clearer and the colors were much richer. The color richness was probably the most distinguishable difference. Print quality aside, this camera is nice. Several of the features that were a big factor in my choosing to buy this camera (sport mode, landscape mode, etc.) have proven to have little bearing on the quality of the prints with the exception of the night mode and macro mode (for "up-close" pictures). I was taken away at the quality of some of my beach pictures taken at night while the camera was in night mode. They were incredible! In the macro mode, prints turn out crisp and clear. Another huge bonus of this camera is its durability. While on a trip to Anchorage, Alaska, I got to go hiking. While taking a picture atop a very steep, rocky incline, my fingers slipped and my camera fell -- bouncing 50-60 feet off of boulders. I assumed that my investment was lost -- surely destroyed. I was excitedly surprised that my assumptions were wrong. Aside from a few body scratches, the camera was perfectly okay and still functioning as before. On the same trip, I took a boat ride into Prince William Sound and watched glaciers from the front of our little cruise boat. My camera was in this freezing, rainy weather for quite a while yet the elements didn't harm it at all. I also like the ability to change from manual to automatic focus because often, the auto focus will not clearly focus on the subject. Overall, it is an slightly above average camera.
