I purchased my Nikon N60 about 8 months ago, after using my brother's N6006. I fell in love with the camera instantly! I am not a professional, but I don't need to be with this camera. The N60 is basically idiot proof in its fully automatic mode, and has turned out some amazing pictures that my previous cameras (point and shoot) would never dream of.
I decided to go with Nikon over another brand, because it was recommended by several of my friends and both of the camera shops in my town. Nikon has a reputation of making high quality, durable, and easy to use cameras, all of which were important to me.
The fun thing about this camera is that it is just as easy as a point and shoot (but much better quality), and you can also use the manual mode to play around with the shots and get some really cool effects.
I am a big time hiker, and take this camera with me on every hike. Needless to say, it has gotten beat up and knocked around some, but the durability of the camera seems to be excellent, no problems yet.
The N60 is probably best for beginners to avid amateur shutter bugs. Also I plan on keeping this camera for awhile, and belive it is already well worth the investment. I paid about $700.00, but this includes a lot of extras. The body ($309.00), basic 28-80 zoom lens ($99.00), 80-270 zoom lens ($150.00), plus all the little things like batteries (12.00 a set), shoulder strap, camera bag, lens cleaning kit, UV filter, etc.
