| nquinn's Full Review: Pioneer GM-X334 Car Amp |
As a Best Buy Car Audio Specialist, I have thoroughly tested
this amp to find its strengths and weaknesses. Overall, the amp
puts out a crisp, clear signal to give up to 4 speakers in your
car that extra 'oomph'.
The Pioneer GM-X334 is a 4-channel amplifier that puts out about
30 watts x 4 (RMS). This power, compared to a stock radio (about
7watts RMS), or even an aftermarket radio (about 15watts RMS at low distortion), is a significant improvement.
The amp is bridgeable down to 2 channels, and provides about
50w x 2 RMS. Pioneer claims that this amp is 1ohm stable, but
I have noticed that it gets quite warm at this impedance level.
For the most part, this amp would best be used for powering a 4 speaker
system in a car. The sound quality is clear and free of distortion,
maintaining sharp highs, a warm midrange, and moderate bass.
The bass boost output on this amp can best be described as 'smooth'
rather than 'powerful' or 'punchy'. Do not be fooled though - bass
response is quick and accurate.
For about $150, this amp is a good solution for upgrading the power
of your car stereo. In my personal opinion, an amplifier makes a
world of difference over the standard power of a cd deck. If your
speakers can handle the power, an amp will get rid of distortion at
high volumes, enhance the bass, and push your speakers to what they
can do.
Overall, I would recommend this amp for small or moderate 4 speaker
systems. People looking for more power should look to a higher
model.
