| bigger_george's Full Review: Sony XM-2252HX Car Amp |
I originally got these merely for the price. I mean where else could I find an amp for a mere 180 (total with shipping included)I got them by bidding. When I installed it I realized that this was actually a very good amp. I really had a bad impression of Sony car stereo products before I decided to get this. The amp proved me wrong.
It runs 225 x 2 at 4 ohms, 300 x 2 at 2 ohms and
600 x 1 bridged. It says it's 1 ohm stable but I can't really tell since I have it wired at 2.66 ohms. One ohm stable is like with two 2 ohm subwoofers. I have it hooked to three 8 ohm subwoofers. Here is the equation on how the ohm rating works: 1/(1/sub ohm + 1/sub ohm). Add as many sub ohms as you have subs. For example, I have three 8 ohm subwoofers [1/(1/8 + 1/8 + 1/8) = 2.66]Hope this helps a little bit for those of you who are deciding on whether to buy an amp or speaker(s).
I have the amplifier hooked up to three Kicker CompVR subwoofers. They don't have it rated at 2.66 ohms with all my three 10" subs bridged on the amp(not all amps can have more than one sub bridged on it), but with how much it seems to push the subwoofers I wouldn't be surprised if they are pushing them at more than RMS (which is 150 watts a piece) In fact, I have read reviews that say that these were tested to push 700 watts out(not 600 as stated).
Well, I got my car tested for decibels. They are usually tested in competition on the dash for SPL(sound pressure level) decibel rating, this measures how much sound pressure is pushed out(the car "bumping" and "booming") and how loud it is . I had a 135 decibel rating on the dash, which is excellent especially since I had built my car for sound quality with some sound pressure. The SPL is mainly based on subwoofers.
These amplifiers are worth it, definitely worth the value. Make sure you have trunk space though, because this amp is BIG. If you decide on getting these, you can find them at an excellent price now. I've found some on auctions for around 200 brand new. Happy bargain hunting :)
