I recently added this changer to my Acura Vigor. Honda had employed Alpine to do the audio in the early 90’s and hence made factory stereos with CD controllers compatible with Alpine changers. I understand that a few BWM, Mazda, Volvo, and Mercedes radios work with this unit as well. In any case, installation is very easy. Just buy a cable with the changer and simply plug one end into the back of your radio and the other in the changer. Then, just mount it where you are willing to give up some space in your car. I loved the plug and go feature. No wires to cut or splice and it beats Fm modulated units to a pulp in terms of sound quality.
The changer is magazine style that used 6 disc mags which must be loaded prior to used. People often complain about changers not eating 6 CDs instantly, but that kind of bashing is pointless. If you are too lazy to load a magazine, you should just buy a few extras since they sell for around 25 dollars. Anyway, the loading is very simple and once loaded, the magazine is inserted in the changer and it takes over from there. BTW, there is an eject button that power ejects the magazine.
FAST is what I say about the speed with which this thing switches from one CD to anther. It’s done in under 3 seconds. Another thing that really impressed me was the speed of moving from track to track. A track 18 to 3 jump is just as fast as a track 2 to 4. Loaded up it will give you about 6 hours of music and freedom from stupid DJ's and commercials. The only gripe I have with it is how the sliding door is loose and so free moving. If mounted at a 90 degree angle, the door might remain open or be opened by a bump and allow dust to get inside. I have not had that problem, but it seem possible. The only change that needs to be made is to spring load that door. Did I mention it never skips?
Now that Alpine has introduced a more advanced model, used 620's are becoming more commonplace and bargains are to be had.
