My Acura Legend Coupe came pre-wired from the factory for a trunk mounted CD changer.I checked with my local Acura dealer to see how much one cost and was a bit dismayed to learn that there changer was going to set me back $600.
After checking into it a bit I also learned that the changer they were charging $600 for was in fact an Alpine CHM-S620 which I knew would be a lot cheaper at my local Alpine dealer.
I purchased my changer for $299 plus $20 for an adapter plug so the Alpine changer would interface with my cars Bose sound system and I'd still be able to use my cars steering wheel mounted controls.
Installation was as easy as opening the trunk pulling out the plastic cubby on the left side, plugging in the adapter cable then plugging in the changer itself.
This changer is an excellent unit. I have never had it skip going over potholes and my car has been modified and has a fairly stiff suspension. Changes from disc to disc are reasonably quick I'd say less than 10 seconds. It sounds fantastic I'll probably never use my cassette deck again.
These days it's rare when I purchase an item and can say that I'm 100% satisfied with it, but this changer is one of those rare occasions.I can't imagine needing to spend more money on a CD changer. Some people claim that they need a 10 disc changer but 6 discs is fine with me.
Shortly after I purchased my changer I found a couple of adds in the back of Road@Track magazine. I found this same changer available mail order for as little as $204 at one dealer and $209 at another. Considering what a simple installation it is I see no need for most people to spend the extra $90-$95 you'd pony up at your local Alpine dealer. My advise buy it mail order.
