I decided to add a CD Changer to my car, and the dealer recommended the Pioneer CDX-FM657. What a mistake!

This thing has more artifacts (extraneous sounds not on the CD) than an archeologist! On one particular cut that made it ease to show the sales folk, there's a "swish...swish" sound that gets louder as you play through the cut (Vangelis' Anarctica, Track 8). Play that cut on any other CD player in the shop, and there's no extraneous sound. I insisted they get another unit...and it exhibited the same distortions. That means it's a DESIGN or PRODUCTION defect, not just a bad unit. Without adequate diagnostic equipment, the dealer was not able to further diagnose the problem.

I've yanked it out and replaced it with another brand.
