For the money, much better speakers can be purchased.
I work as a sales associate in Car Audio at Best Buy,
and have directly compared these speakers to both the
other brands we carry as well as "professional" brand names.
These 4-way speakers are 'average-sounding' at best. Played
directly from an aftermarket deck (about 15watts RMS), the speakers
sound no different than any of the lower models (6959, 6949, etc).
However, if you put an amp on them, the power handling is much better
than the lower models. These speakers can in fact play very LOUD.
Clarity is not a benefit of these speakers. Midrange is muffled,
Bass is very weak, and despite the extra tweeter, highs are not
that impressive.
If you are shopping at Best Buy, I would recommend looking at the
Rockford Fosgate 6x9's and the Cerwin Vega 6x9's. For a similar price
or less, these other speakers sound much clearer, and hit the bass
much better.
The reliability on the speakers seem to be fair- but be warned:
An amp on most speakers $150 and under will put enough wear on them
to run them down in a year or two. Don't plan on keeping these
speakers for life.
