| sejdogg's Full Review: Rockford Fosgate FNP1514 Car Speaker |
Rockford Fosgate is a leader in sub and amp technology. The subs are indestructable and the amps are oozing with power but leave the speaker designing to someone else. I went to the crutchfield showroom in Charlottesville, VA (go Wahoos!) and they had about 100 speaker sets up for demo. i spent almost an hour listening to different component sets including infinity kappa, cerwin-vega, polk, pioneer, sony, and rockford fosgate.
The fanatic Q series was a very good sounding set. maybe the third or fourth best there. but i think the infinity kappas sounded the best of all in the showroom. the fanatic Q bass response had the least distortion of all at high volumes but the kappa high was a little clearer and the midranges were very tight, before the distortion of course. The polk and Vega stealth highs were nice too but the fanatic P was near the bottom of the list. the only thing it has going for it is decent power handling and cheap price tag. The highs on the P were total mud compared to its higher priced brother Q. i even thought the highs on the RF coaxials were better than the fanatic P.
RF woofer designing expertise is apparent with the awesome power handling ability of its components but the tweeters need a lot of refinement.
