| scott92282's Full Review: JVC KD-LX3 Car CD Player |
I purchased my KD-LX3 from a friend who was upgrading to an MP3 player. This receiver has exceeded my expectations.
I have a Bose audio system in my car, and with some finagaling, I was able to make the KD-LX3 work. The only thing that changed was that I could not turn it up very loud (level 10 is normal listening). This makes the range of adjustment for volume very small. The increments of volume adjustment are large, so comfortable listening level is difficult to produce sometimes, however, this is not a problem with the receiver, but with my amplified speakers.
The clarity and depth of the sound is incredible. I was very impressed by the bass output as well as the crisp treble output. I use the BBE setting all of the time, it adds a lot of depth to the sound of the music. It acts like a "loud" button, but better. I was able to add two 10" subwoofers to the system without any trouble. The pre-outs are very easy to work with and still keep the bass sound crisp and clear to the subwoofer amp. There is also a set of line in jacks as well as line out jacks. I am very pleased with the quality of the sound output from the 4x40 amp in the KD-LX3 unit.
The features of this head unit are very intuitive. The cruise mode offers the ability of the unit to adjust volume according to engine noise. I don't use this feature because my car is very quiet and I do not see the use for it, personally. The bass, treble, fade, and balance are exceptionally wide ranged to give the best customization of sound to give the listener ultimate quality. I do not use the feature that allows the listener to program in the names of radio stations, CD songs, or Line In Jacks. I find this too time consuming and tedious, especially if the battery is disconnected for a long period of time and all of the information gets erased. I do not have a CD changer, but I expect that the CD changer option works as well as the other functions.
The main feature of the KD-LX3 is the fact that the faceplate flips around and is very impressive. It is supposed to simulate that there is no faceplate. If someone glanced into the car, they would not see the faceplate, but if someone looked for it, they would have a good reason to break into my car. I have not had any such incidents yet, and hope not to in the future.
I have heard this head unit in three separate cars, and in each one, the sound quality is unsurpassed in my opinion. I did not expect this product to play MP3s, or else I would have bought an MP3 head unit.
