| Seanholio's Full Review: JVC KD-LX3 Car CD Player |
Like kmic, whose opinion is up for this product, I also bought this with the expectation that I will be adding an MP3 player to my car. It's a work in progress, and based off the route66 link in my profile.
I can't remember all of the good points about this head unit, but I'll try to get them all down. First off, it's a great-sounding unit. The 4x40 amp is great, and sufficient for most automobiles with normal speakers. Included are basic sound controls (bass, treble, fader, balance, etc.), normal CD functions (track skip, direct track jump (1-12 only) and seek through songs), and a line input. There is also support for CDtext on CD's that contain this, and you can punch in the names of your thirty favorite CDs. Nice. Also, you can punch in custom names for your preset radio stations. The line input can be custom-named, so the display shows what you have coming in through there. Mine is named MP3 in anticipation of the MP3 player.
The audio cruise feature is nice, allowing you to specify volume boost when your car is running at speed, so you aren't in the cycle of turning up the radio on the freeway, and then turning it down at the stoplight.
The remote control makes the unit easy to use, and appears to be durable enough to handle the usage it will receive in my car.
I love the Kameleon faceplate, since it basically disappears from casual view when it is powered off. This is a good feature for normal cars, but if you are leaving your convertable top down during the day, someone who gets a closer look will realize that there is something valuable there.
The buttons are hard to get used to. There is a single row of buttons that are all the same shape and size, but there are nubbins on certain ones that help you place your fingers without looking. It takes a while to get used to finding these, as they aren't that big or noticable. If you have big calluses on your fingers, forget about it.
The BBE processor is excellent. If you like the "loudness" feature on standard head units, you'll love this. It does a much better job.
There are animation options available for the faceplate, which may please some people, but I simply found them distracting and turned them off.
