| owenrevans's Full Review: Pioneer DEH-46DH CD Changer |
My 1994 Saturn, a GM designed automobile, has some standard features on it that are not entirely compatible with most car stereo electronics. Needless to say, upgrading my sound system was some what of a challenge. The first upgrade was to find high quality speakers that fit the GM openings (see my other epinion). The second was to find a high power in dash CD stereo that would fit that GM hole. I had previously experimented with a normal DIN size radio, but had to buy a special kit. This kit was ugly and radio stuck out about 1.5 inches - It just looked terrible and I
was very dissatisfied. Pioneer then came out with GM/Chrylser Fit radios. These CD players are 1.5 DIN (1.5 x the width of normal radios) and are significantly shorter in depth than the normal din size radios. The installation of this radio was easy, and with the purchase of a Pioneer/GM wire harness, I had no wires to cut. With a pair of good speakers, the sound quality of the 46DH is awesome! This deck pumps out 45W max power, but it comes with 2 pre-outs so adding an amplifier and/or sub with no problem. The deck allows for naming of up to 20 of your favorite CD's - which is a pretty nifty feature. The deck has large, easy to control buttons and the display is bright and looks great.
I do have one major regret, however. I would recommend purchasing the better model, the 76DH or 86DH. These models are more expensive, but allow for more versatility. Both of these have CD changer controls and adapters can be purchased to run auxiliary sound inputs (i.e. MP3 players, etc.) using these stereos.
