| breathe23's Full Review: Pioneer DEH-1000 CD Changer |
I bought this cd player a year ago to replace a piece of junk Audiovox tape player. I had around two-hundred dollars so I went to Wal-Mart (not the greatest place for car audio) and picked up the cheapest non road gear/jensen/sony head unit i could find. This head unit was a huge step up from the 4 watts max per channel i was getting from the Audiovox, being as the Pioneer put out 45 watts max per channel, or 22 watts RMS (root mean square (continuous power)) per channel. The non detatchable face on this unit isn't great, because of theft. I didnt really like two things the cd player offered. One was the FIE (Front Imaging Enhancer), what this feature did was played all subsonic frequencies in the rear speakers and all full range on the front. This might be good if you have midbass speakers in back, but not for co-axial speakers. The other feature I did not like was the EEQ. It didnt let me actually have control of my bass and treble settings, and the only two EEQ settings that actually sounded good were 'Powerful' and 'Super Bass'. Super Bass was not a very good setting though. I ran Rockford Fosgate 5" speakers receiving deck power at half volume, and the voice coil burnt within a month. I talked to a local shop owner, and he told me it was because the setting was trying to play my co-axial speakers like subwoofers, and I would need a crossover to prevent this from happenning. Recently I bought a Clarion 6675z head unit to replace it. The Clarion just had many more feautures I liked.
