| athakur999's Full Review: Pioneer DEH-6000 CD Changer |
This is the current CD player in my Sentra. Even with my factory speakers, the 45 watts this player can pump to each of them makes them sound great. I haven't made any other upgrades to my sound system, so I can't really comment on the quality of the 6000 in those respects.
The important controls are large and easy to use without taking your eyes off the road. The "Easy EQ" function, which lets you choose between several configurations by simply flicking a button up or down, is great. If one album is too bass heavy for your speakers to handle, press one button and it's all good. If, instead, you want your jaws to rattle at each beat, there's an option for that too. I find the "Powerful" setting to be a good general purpose one.
The player gives you the ability to title your discs. Its quite painful however, and almost useless unless you have a Pioneer CD changer to go with the stereo. However, its good for the "that's neat" factor from your friends.
There's also a "Front Image Enhancer" (FIE) feature which, depending on your tastes, can be useful. It basically shifts the bass to your rear speakers. This only really works well if you have subwoofers in back, and with my factory speakers this setting doesn't do too much.
The manual is great, and goes into alot of detail of what the vast amount of settings do. Without the manual, however, it's hard to figure out what many of the options of for, most of which look more like airport codes than actual words.
Last but not least, this thing never skips. I've driven through some of the worst potholes in the country (if you've even been in New Orleans, you know what I mean) and this thing takes them without flinching. In the two years I've had it, it hasn't skipped once.
In retrospect, I do somewhat regret purchasing the flip down model and should have opted for one with a slot in the face. My friends can never find the "Open" button and instead hit every other button trying to get the cover to flip down. However, this is just a personal preference and otherwise, I love this thing.
