| _AcidBurn_'s Full Review: Pioneer DEH-P900R |
I recently bought the Pioneer DEH-P900r. After months of waiting for my head unit I finally got it. I had every single part of the system except the most important part! When I first turned it on my eyes lit up as the amazing Organic EL display showed a demo of the unit. With its catchy 3D animation and multi-color 3d menus, it definitely catches your eye. When I started messing with the features thought, it seemed a little overwhelming at first. However, the more I messed with it, the more I realized that the system was very efficient and it had everything I could possibly want. Now don't get me wrong.... This head unit is not for the average user. It is the best in its class and is loaded with the most features in its line. You need to be a serious stereo competitor in order to understand this thing's features. It has High and Low pass filters, the ability to use the back speaker channel to power a subwoofer and a 45-watt by 4 high power MOSFET amplifier. It also has many different SFC's and octave bass enhancement modes as well as a Front Image Enhancement mode and an Automatic Sound Leveler with a built in Mic. It even has a listening position selector that allows you to pick what seat your in and optimizes the sound for that seat. Some other features include a 3-mode loudness control, DFS alarm, a motorized face, and of course, it's built in CD player. The CD player reads CD-R and CD-RW formats after the disks are finalized. For the life of me I could not get the CD player to skip either.
There are only a few bad things about the 900r. First, although the Organic EL display is a lot smoother looking than most dot matrix displays, it lacks the color. There are sections of the face that are different colors. Red, Green & Blue. However, these areas support many shades of the colors, which allows for the 3D effect. Don't get me wrong, the graphics are amazing... I’m not complaining. The only use for a multi-color display in all areas of the screen would be to watch TV, GPS Positioning or play video games. Due to the pioneer's single din design, there is no need for any of that. The second problem I have had was its lack of RCA INPUTS. I have an MP3 player, and before I got the head unit I completely refused to play CD's or Tapes. I had to use a tape adapter in order to listen to it on my old head unit, but this one doesn't have a tape deck, so I had to burn a CD-RW made from MP3's and pop it in. I hate tapes, so this is not a big deal to me, but I just wish there was a way to play my MP3 Player on it! Then I wouldn't have to use CD's either.... I mean, we all know those are old technology now too!
