FRIEND OF MINE GOT THIS STEREO FOR $40.00 NEW AT WAL-MART!!!!! Now that I have your attention, I know you will read this. I don't know why Wal-Mart closed this stereo out because it was the best thing they carried over all. They sell the new Pioneers with MOSFET power and this Sony kills them dead without trying.
But Wal-Mart dropped it and as such, clearanced it to a ridiculous price. Sad thing is that I didn't get one before they sold the last one.
Well, onto the review. What's there to review? The name says it all. Sony rocks hard!!! And this deck has a lot of rock hard features! Like a Sony exclusive D-bass control which makes a dramatic difference in bass response. You have to hear it to believe it! BELIEVE IT THOUGH!! And in addition to that, it also has your standard separate treble and bass controls. Has-easy to use while driving-station changing for AM/FM reception. Also has two sets of preamp outputs instead of just one set. That makes it really nice for adding external amps without using Y adapters for signal splitting. But the deck's internal amps are no slouches either since it puts out 35 watts x 4 channel for a total of 140 watts. And it is pure raw power refined for totally clean sound with absolutely no distortion at all. It even makes factory cone speakers sound good. I installed it for my friend and I was immediately jealous when I finally heard it in a car for the first time instead of on the wall at the store. You can imagine how it would sound with a couple of pairs of Sony speakers to go with it! It does not have a detachable face, however that is a plus for me instead of a negative. It ensures years of service without annoying problems that develop with detachable faces such as turning off and on by itself and changing stations on you in the middle of songs. Skip control is untouchable also, as I drove her car across railroad tracks without slowing down(about 35 MPH) and it never so much as hinted that it was, or might, skip. IT NEVER SKIPS!!!
Having dual preamp outputs and 140 watts total as well as such clean sound definitely makes it a consideration for a competition head unit although my friend will never compete with it. I think she should sell it to me. I offered her more than she gave plus my Panasonic CD player already, and I would do all the uninstalling and reinstalling for her, and she turned me down. I don't blame her. She has a Sony(the best brand on the market in my opinion) at an absolutely stupid price! $40.00 new in the box, never been hooked up before! That was enough to make me sick!!!
This Sony stereo is awesome and if you can find one, you should buy it for sure.
