The Bottom Line: It may be cheap, but it doesn't have any value either.

| cohall's Full Review: Aiwa AV-D55 |
"Well it's Aiwa, so I'm sure it will be good." These were quite possibly the most inaccurate words that have ever left my mouth. I went to Best Buy a few months ago with a $100 Gift Certificate and a mission, buy a brand new receiver that had quality and was still affordable. I figured if I could take a hundred bucks off the price, I wouldn't feel as guilty about my purchase. Boy was I wrong. I figure that the best way to describe this piece of equipment is a simple list.
1. 100 watts per channel, yeah right! I'm not sure how they get away with claiming this, but it can't be true. I have to keep mine at a level of 25 out of 30 just to listen to a movie.
2. No Dolby Digital or DTS. When I bought mine, this wasn't a huge deal, but now it is really frustrating. The 5.1 channel inputs work alright if you have a DVD player with a built in Digital Decoder (check my review of the Sony s560d), but I would difinetly recommend to spend the money for a processor now.
3. Terrible remote. It's just too confusing for words, not to mention ugly and cheap.
4. Hard to adjust the sound or anything else on the unit.
Basically, I would stay away from this unit at all costs. It may cheap, but I promise it will remind you how cheap it is everyday. If you want some statistics on the receiver I recommend checking the other "Don't Like" review on this receiver. But with or without the stats, It's still junk.
