Pros: Flawless sound, great features
Cons: Horror stories at audioreview.com regarding quality control issues with the H\K 500s and 700s.
The Bottom Line: Buy the 510 or wait for the upgrade to the AVR 7000.

For 50-some years, H\K has been producing quality products. Until last year. The AVR 500, and to some extent 7000, suffers a number of problems. According to reviews at audioreview.com, some of these problems did not surface for a year or so, leaving buyers with little recourse but to deal directly with H\K corporate.
The AVR 110 through 510 are, in my opinion, truer to H\K's historic reputation for quality products. No one else will touch the sound quality of an H\K. I've tested Denon, Yamaha and Onkyo side-by-side and concluded that H\K delivers the best elements of all the aformentioned without the flaws. If you're in the market for a great product but want to avoid the 500 or 7000, go with the the AVR 510 like I did. It delivers most of the 7000 features and a few more that the 7000 lacks. Plus the QC issues appear to have been resolved and the price is lower.
