Pros: Smooth, clear, lifelike sound. Value for money. Reliable. Attractive.
Cons: None really. Controls on unit are a bit fiddly. Remote is huge.
The Bottom Line: Absolutely worth a listen if you are looking for a good mid range amp.

| ssplatt's Full Review: harman/kardon HK 3270 |
Prior to buying this unit, I listened to several units around the AUD$600 mark. An amplifier is a component, so when combined in a system, I think it is difficult or impossible for the average listener to isolate the strengths and weaknesses of individual components. All you can hope for is to try to get a system in which all of the components are complementary and balanced.
I was fortunate to be able to audition this amp with the same CD player and speakers as I have at home (I have a NAD 540 CD player and ALR/Jordan Entry 2M speakers - my previous amp was also Harman Kardon and for the record I have QED Qudos and Qnect cables).
The 3270 was noticably superior in delivering lifelike and dynamic sound. I also considered NAD, Rotel, Sansui, Yamaha and Denon (and Maranatz I think).
Two years later, I am still very, very happy with the system, and the amp. It sounds great with quiet classical piano and guitar. Equally good with loud, dynamic rock and electronic music. Voices have lots of presence and personality. Listening through headphones is delightful.
Other good features:
- it has a phono input.
- simple, clean black design, blends into the background, with no unnecessary lights (in fact, the display can be dimmed or turned off altogether)
- sleep timer (occasionally useful for late night listening)
Recommended:
Yes
Amount Paid (US$): AUD$600
