| frankel84's Full Review: Onkyo TX-DS777 |
This review is actually for the TX-DS787.It's my 2nd A/V reciever and the best i could afford as i am only 16.Compared to the Pioneer the processing is better, it runs much cooler, has better amps and excellent channel separation and transient response. Not as loud as my 2channel separates (Crown PB-3...540 watts,.005 THD,110 S/N)and pioneer preamp,Denon CD
Here is my breakdown of it's performance:
2ch stereo:4 stars
5.1,6.1 ch. Surround:4 stars
DSP Modes:4.5 stars
Remote:5 stars
Value:3.5 stars
This is my system:
Onkyo TX-DS787
Bryston 2B power amp(i am using this and the front channels of the onkyo in bi-amped configuration for my mains)
Onkyo AO-8067 integrated amp for rear 7.1 surrounds
Mitsubishi 50" Projection
Mitsubishi DD-4001 DVD player
Infinity CS-3007 Mains
B&W Center ch.
Infinity RS-4 surrounds
JBL Control 1 plus 7.1 surrounds
AR S-300 sub
The onkyo performs quite well for the money. If you have between 700 and 1000 dollars to blow get this or the denon.
If you don't need the one extra amp channel get this (6.1 as opposed to 7.1, But the onkyo still has the pre-amp outputs)if you are on a budget get the Technics DA-8 or
DA-10 from ETRONICS.COM. They offer almost as good of performance for much less (300 for the DA-8.They are fan cooled, which is rare at this price, beefy as hell and sound great. They also have a detachable power cord.
THIS WOULD BE 4.5 STARS IF THE RATINGS ALLOWED FOR IT
