| tomsat's Full Review: Pioneer VSX-D308 Receiver |
In one of my treks to Sam's Club, I came upon this "bargain", a VSX D-307. At the time, I didn't realize or would have even cared that the VSX D-307 wasn't made anymore and had been replaced by the almost identical D-308. Pioneer must have changed the model # to make people think they were good or something. HAH!
I wanted a low-end surround sound receiver to replace my older basic SSI standalone Pro-Logic (without tuner) that would fit into my entertainment center and would do the switching of my audio sources like satellite, vcr, dvd, etc. While this did work out OK, the main reason I'm not happy is the fact that it just doesn't deliver good sound!! It came with a whole bunch of speakers, and I can't blame them for the problem. What's wrong is the proliferation of useless settings, buttons, modes, and the fact that the remote is all wrong. When you pick it up, it's ALWAYS upside down!!! Then, after you get the remote figured out, you have to wonder what all the settings are for. Forget the owners manual--something got lost in the translation-what the heck are they saying here? Holy macaroni--I just wanted it to sound good!! After 2 months of trying, I've retired the Pioneer and put back the SSI unit--it sounds better and only cost me $119 with 6 speakers!! Plus, it only has 3 buttons!!
NOTE:Under durability below I put that it will last forever since it won't get any use in the box--somebody please make offer!!
