I bought this receiver with Dolby Digital in mind. This model has excellent digital surround a continuous 80 Watts is enough to power most speakers, there is even a impedance selector to select the correct impedance for your speakers. You can even control each channels output volume. By telling the receiver if your speakers are large or small it'll cut out the appropriate signals, and by telling it the distance your speakers are from the general listening position it'll delay the closer speakers so that the sound from all 5 speakers reaches you uniformly.
This receiver has many features. It has 6 DSP modes hall1, hall2, jazz, dance, theater1, and theater2. There is a loudness button so the bass and treble tones can be more easily heard at lower volumes. There is a built in crossover, so you can determine the bass frequencies you want sent to your sub-woofer. One of the best features is the midnight mode. This feature balances out the sound so you can hear effective surround at low volumes.
There are many audio inputs: mini-disc, cassette deck, VCR, TV, CD, and of course DVD. For the digital connections there is 2 optical ins and 1 coaxial. The receiver also has a 5.1 connection for Dolby Digital decoding DVD players.
I recommend this receiver to anyone who is looking for great Dolby Digital surround at a reasonable price.
