| RowdyH69's Full Review: Sony STR-DE435 Receiver |
My brother actually owns the STR-435, I bought it for him through my available discounts. I am reviewing his system for him as he was unable to take it home over Christmas. His system is kept at my parents house and i reap the benefits living near home. Having owned his Sony DVD 530D for over a year he enjoyed hadn't had the privilege of experiencing home theatre surround sound, let only Dolby Digital. He owns well over a hundred dvds and will not watch anything vhs. Upon a visit to me at school he experienced my roommates system. Shortly before coming home for Christmas his shelf system died. The shelf system was is under extended warranty and unable to be fixed. With a $180 dollars from his shelf system he decided to buy a receiver and speakers. The 530D has a built-in Dolby Digital/DTS decoder so we looked for digital ready. Needing the system for the next two, three years there was no point in tying a lot of money in system. Liking the idea of matching components and Sony name he narrowed his choices to the 435, 535, and 635. Not being a a/v guy he did care for the bells and whistles of the upper models. He previously selected the speakers he wanted, all five 100 watts RMS. The speakers matched up with receiver perfectly. He enjoyed the idea that he could easily assemble the system when he moved later in the year. Upon setting up the system at our parents' house we were surprised how well the 435 drove the speakers. The receiver is not complicated to use. My mother has no problem setting up the speakers to the sound she likes. The ability to change the settings to a user is unusual for the price. The system receiver is a great first buy. Anyone can use it, and get the sound they are looking for.
