| Nate_Lee's Full Review: Yamaha HTR-5140 5.1 Channels Receiver |
I got the HTR5240 at Best Buy on sale (free crappy speakers thrown in for free) for 349. It is available online for as low as 289 but you have to pay for shipping and unless they are authorized Yamaha dealers, the warranty may be voided. If you comparo-shop, you will notice the 5240 is rated at 350 total watts, 75W x 5 channels...this is lower than other receivers comparably priced. Don't let the conservative power rating dissuade you from testing this component. It has all the features and performance to be the centerpiece of a mid range home theatre set up. The DSP and DTS will handle all digital formats and the back panel accepts the latest inputs/outputs, whether its optical, component video, S-video, or analog. It even has two different impedence levels depending on your speaker setup. The sound is just full and clean, very high quality. For an unscientific but reliable hands on quality test, try this: lift the receiver up and see how much it wieghs, out of the box, just by itself. The Yamaha is always heavier than comparable amps due to the solid construction, big power amplifier, heavier heat sink, and solid frame construction. That quality and performance is worth the premium!
