| rolatrex's Full Review: Yamaha R-V1105 5.1 Channels Receiver |
I bought the Yamaha R-V1105 Natural Receiver because it was on sale but it sure doesn't perform like a sale receiver! Features include 85 watts RMS per channel, Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS sound, useful sound fields and direct inputs for any upcoming new technologies not to mention three optical inputs. Out of the box, it was easy if (although hefty) to connect other components. The on-screen menus made calibration a snap. With this receiver you can easily adjust Left/Right channel balance control just in case one speaker is closer to a wall and puts out more sound than the other. This might not seem novel but my last Pro Logic receiver could not be balanced with the main channels just the center and surrounds. The sound is awesome! Especially in the mids and the highs. On the downside, binding posts all around instead of just the Left/Right channels would have been nice. I hate spring clips! The remote could have been a little more intuitive then again its the only remote that will control my entire system with a few bugs but its a whole lot better than multiple remotes. This receiver is for the home theater enthusiast who may realize that speakers make the best investment for their money but also know a good receiver can sometimes elevate even mediocre speakers.
