Because the receiver is the backbone to any home theater, I wanted a quality unit, but I did not want to pay an arm and a leg. I also wanted it to be flexible enough to grow with my system. At the time I bought this receiver, DVD was just taking off. I did not own a DVD player yet, but I knew I would someday. So to save money, I decided to get a Dolby Digital "ready" receiver with the 5.1 inputs. Looking back after about a year and a half, I am glad I made this decision. Once the price of DVD players went down, I was able to buy one with a DD decoder built-in, and the sound is incredible! It is clear with very little hiss.
I have a pair of Polk RT7's for the main front, Polk CS225 for the center, and Polk RT f/x for the surrounds. I am very pleased about how this setup sounds. I could use a sub, but because I live in an apartment, I thought I would be nice to the neighbors.
The only fault I have found with the receiver is the remote. It is absolutely horrible. It has a lot of good features, such as the macros. But the layout is confusing. I gave up on it after a couple of days and bought a universal remote.
Therefore, I would recommend this receiver to anyone looking for quality for a reasonable price.
