Pros: Great sound, Packs a punch, drives difficult loads, plenty of inputs, palatable DSP
Cons: No Component Video, Horrible remote.
The Bottom Line: Fantastic receiver with plenty of inputs (except component video) with plenty of power.
Plan on buying a new remote.

I've got one of these with a pair of Magnepan MMGs, a Magnepan MCC1 in the center, a Velodyne FXR-1800, and a pair of random Infinity bookshelves as my temporary rears.
It's really nice to be able to just turn the volume knob and hear the sound just continually get louder without falling apart. It has little difficulty driving my Magnepans even without setting the impedance switch on the back to 4 Ohms. For those of you that don't know this, these switches basically places a 4 Ohm resistor in the path of your speakers. Unless your receiver is clipping or otherwise having difficulty, I wouldn't bother with it. My receiver doesn't get above slightly warm, so it doesn't really bother me. I listen to a vast variety of material, from Classical to Metallica to Blink 182 and my system doesn't miss a beat.
There are S-Video jacks for all of the video components including the front panel. However, for the video purists there is no component video. For the digital audio side, there are 4 optical inputs and 2 coax inputs. DTS, Dolby Digital, etc. I could give you more specs, but I'd rather just point you at the Yamaha site:

The build quality is fantastic, which makes this beast quite heavy.
The soundfields are the best I have heard (with 5 channels). However, they are still little more than a novelty. While I do find them palatable, I still end up using the standard settings for almost all material. I don't feel as though I was paying a premium just for DSP, so it doesn't matter to me. If you are looking for good DSP, this is probably one of your better choices.
The master remote control is horrible. While the concept of having all of these macros is nice, having only 3-4 available functions when the lid is closed, makes the macro mode useless. The fact that the tuner and CD buttons can't be reprogrammed is also painful, since I have an old Technics CD player. I lived with the remote for about 6 months and gave up on it.
Save yourself some pain and suffering and spend $30 at Radio Shack for a Universal Remote.
