| JSWB's Full Review: Yamaha RX-V795 5.1 Channels Receiver |
The Yamaha RXV795 surround receiver is overall a very good piece of home theater equipment. It is very easy to use, and has virtually every cutting-edge technology feature available in this field. I purchased it because of the 5 separate (discreet) amplifiers, and the fact that it is Dolby Digital and DTS ready. Each speaker in the surround system has it's own amplifier, providing crisp, clear sound, which is important when playing DVD's or even CD's. I have a DVD player connected to it via a fiber-optic cable, and the sound of Dolby Digital and DTS movies is incredible. When I listen to music CD's, I can choose from the different sound fields (digitally delayed and enhanced) to create the proper listening atmosphere for the type of music. Admittedly, some types of music I have sound better just straight; with no enhancements. The universal remote that it uses is an excellent design overall. It allows you to control everything individually, including each speaker volume and delay, and these functions can even be viewed on your TV screen. My biggest complaint is that the remote is difficult to use in the dark. The keys are not backlit, and neither is the window that shows which device you are controlling. Also, I have had this for less than a year, and at least half of the printing is worn-off the remote; the buttons and the printing around them.
The receiver is a little pricey, but I found it worth it.I can say that I have had few instances where I've utilized the DTS format, and it may have been unnecessary since there are few products out yet in that format. It might have saved me as much as $100 if I had gotten the next model lower, which I believe isn't DTS capable.
I'm very pleased with the quality of the receiver, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for high quality who has the money to get it.
