Pros: Great quality for home theatre, seems
durable, keeps cool
Cons: Not appropriate for music/2-channel mode. Remote is ridiculous.
The Bottom Line: For Home Theatre uses, I highly recommend the 995. However, if you just plan on listening to music, keep looking!

| nquinn's Full Review: Yamaha RX-V995 5.1 Channels Receiver |
The Yamaha RX-V995 is wonderful for home theatre, but
not so impressive for 2-channel stereo music.
Overall, this unit provides plenty of features and
quality for the money. Just recently, the price has
come down quite a bit. Originally starting at $900,
it can be had for around $600-$700 now. This obviously
keeps it competing with some higher end models such
as the Denon 3300.
FEATURES
All of the features are there - 5.1 surround, lots of
connections on the back including optical and coax.
S-video passthroughs exist as well.
The remote is HUGE, and includes a hinged door. The
options are nice, but once the initial settings are where
you want them for your room, a smaller remote would be
more ergonomic.
The interface on the yammy is average at best. Navigating
the menu choices is understandable, but I have seen more
user-friendly interfaces on other brands.
SOUND QUALITY
Home Theatre fans, this receiver is for you. The receiver
puts out a crisp, clean signal. Surround sound never sounded so good. Bass is more than adequate. At 100 watts
per channel (as they rate it), there should be enough power
for most users who do not want to go the amp/preamp route.
Audiophiles, beware though. I have never been a big fan
of yamaha when it comes to music. Many people consider
yamaha superb for classical music. I don't find the sound of this receiver to be pleasing with any kind of music - rock, pop, jazz, classical. To me, yamaha's tend to sound too harsh and emphasize the highs. The midrange just doesn't have the warmth of other receivers.
DO listen to this receiver before you purchase it.
It may or may not fit your needs.
